My interests are mainly trains, model trains, nature and family. One feature is the Stephen Harris collection that I have been editing for the Ogden Union Station Museums. There are over 100 of them. They depict railroading in the western states as recorded by Mr. Harris during the decade of the 1970's. Harris was a Union Pacific Engineer. His original super 8 films are housed at the Union Station as are the digitized masters.

This film was made on May 10th at the Union Station on the debut of 3002. The restoration work was done in the UTA shops in Salt Lake City. Union Pac...

Harris Live Sound Film 01 (REVISED)
What a magnificent piece of history!
Yes, I agree whole heartedly.
Muy buen vídeo
Gracias
Big Boy back in Ogden Utah. He's quite large. Now a major part of UP's heritage fleet.
The Frontrunner locomotive wanted to be an honourary steam engine with it's smoke!
It does look that way! Ha ha!
The first time 4014 visits Ogden in 5 years since 2019 after the Golden Spike 150 celebration in 2019
Yes, we've waited quite a while for a re-visit!
What a great treat to see! Thank you Lee for sharing this wonderful piece of machinery, the Big Boy 4014! I can’t wait to see it on the way back through the 20th and 21st of July @ Union Station in Ogden. I know when I heard that distinctive whistle in my apartment that it was the Big Boy. I’m so glad and happy that they were able to get it back in working condition. 🫶👍🎉
Thanks Kirk, appreciate the comments. I'm with you 100%
Well put together
Thanks.
fun
Awesome recording Lee, I appreciate your efforts ! I hope you and your family had a Happy 4th of July ! Greetings from Southern California; - Larry
Thanks for your good wishes from So. California. Seeing the Big Boy was a great reward on the 4th. My father was a conductor and he crewed the first Big Boy out of Ogden back in the early 1940's
@LeeWitten Wow, that's remarkable what a legacy ! I hope you enjoy your weekend Lee 😊
Great video, Lee. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. Glad you enjoyed it.
It’s always a magnificent sight to see the Big Boy in action! I like that it had an Ex SP AC44CW with it. You did a good job on recording those additional UP Freights rolling by, I even thought it was amusing to hear “You got a friend in me” from Toy Story during that parade.
Thanks for watching. It was a fun day.
My son watched it leave salt lake last night
Always exciting to see the big black steamer. Glad your son had that experience. We'll see it in Ogden on the 20th.
@@LeeWitten I would love te see it but I don’t think it’s gonna get to omaha
@@charlesdail882 Yes, not this season....California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho
I have been seeing those new cars rolling behind trains around here in AZ
I was hoping to see the heritage passenger cars.
Hi
Thank you for posting this archive. Best time of my life. Absolutely awesome watching these old trains. 🚂🚃🚃🚃
Glad this brought back good memories.
Amtrak could’ve reequip the SDP40F with hep
Western Pacific and Great Northern/Burlington Northern had a run-through power agreement for trains between Klamath Falls, OR and Stockton, CA for Inside Gateway trains connecting to the Santa Fe at Stockton. For a while in the early 70's, Stockton was host to a rainbow of BN power despite how far it was from the rest of the BN. This agreement ended overnight in 1980 with the announcement of the UP merger, and WP was forced to use their four-axle power over the steep grade.
on boy that track looks Rough
By the variety of the engines, reminds me of the high line running north of the Keddie Wye.
Is there a way to get information on the group that did the restoration. I'd love to be a part of it.
I'll check with Derrick and let you know.
send me an email and I'll put you in touch with Derrick. lewitten1@comcast.net
WP #3002 is now at its good home at the Utah State Railroad Museum of Ogden Utah. Thanks to everyone involved in saving and restoring the GP35, the Western Pacific Railroad is now represented in Utah which completes the major Utah railroads collection. who knows? Maybe WP #3002 could be used in excursion service.
Thanks or the comment.
@@LeeWittenyou're welcome. The locomotive in front of it is NKP #324 which is actually a former Utah Railway RSD-5 in the wrong paint job but it'll be corrected soon.
@@Slipperyisimproving Ok, thanks. It will be great to see it back in Utah R. colors.
@@LeeWitten in case you're wondering who painted it that way, it was Doyle McCormack who was once president of the ORHF.
He evens films 4WP U30B’s run through.
Yes, rare lashes for sure.
Another 5 MPH and that crazy engineer would've been picking those SD45's up out of the ditch at Thistle!!!
Whistling at the person.
Not called a train driver! You run a train, you drive a car. Odd numbered trains were westbounds, even #s were eastbounds
Bouncing like a basketball every trip...oh jesus!
U50Cs, Centennials and even a rare DD35 thrown in! Nice!
yes, it used to be fun spotting the different locomotives. Now it's very homogenized. Only thing is the latest color schemes of the livery.
Great Video I remember seeing Milwaukee Road in Dresbach Minnesota back in the 80's
Glad this brought back memories for you.
Glad to see the progress they’ve made on the layout! I really like that desert set piece on there. Your GTEL model is also fantastic!
Hi Alik, Thanks for the comment. We're making slow progress. Out building committee is not very speedy but what they do is good quality. Its fun running different trains each week when I'm on duty.
Great video , with plenty of chinese red Burlington, GN big sky blue, S.P&S. Tan and pullman green and of course W.P. in Silver and Orange. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoed it.
Thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed it. One of my favorites also.
Well dubbed. Videos like this are hard to come by. Too bad Stephen didn't take a sound recorder with him as he took these videos. Those old EMDs sound great. Stephen Harris must have loved the Yakima River Canyon between Ellensburg and Yakima. Can't say as I blame him. Trains, goats, deer, and other wildlife, and a great place to raft the river. Done that a few times.
Thanks for commenting. Yes, Stephen ranged around the Northwest as well as Utah.
Fantastic video!
Thanks, glad you watched it.
